The visual arts committee of the South Arkansas Arts Center announces the award-winning entries for the 2015 Juried Art Competition and exhibition.  The awards were presented by guest judge Dr. Stanton Thomas, curator of European and Decorative Art at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art in Memphis, Tennessee, during a recent artist reception hosted for the Smackover State Bank sponsored fine art competition and exhibition.

Dr. Thomas selected the exhibition from over 300 submissions made by artists from across the country.  Prior to the artist reception, Dr. Thomas selected the award winners from the exhibition, currently on display in the Merkle and Price Galleries until July 30.

Best of Show was presented to Jason Sacran of Magazine, Arkansas, for his acrylic on linen painting entitled “Green Glow.”  First Place was presented to Teresa Harris of St. Joseph, Missouri, for her mixed media work entitled “Censor.”

Susan Leslie Lumsden of Thayer, Missouri, was presented Second Place for her fiber art installation entitled “Slipstream Adventure.” Third Place was presented to Clarke Galusha of Norphlet, Arkansas, for his wet-plate collodion tintype entitled “Hidden Mother.”
