Keb’ Mo’ and Shawn Colvin announced their tour will make a stop at Walton Arts Center with special guest Paul Kelly, Friday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Land O’Lakes Concert Series. 

 

Tickets for the show are $45 to $89 and will go on sale to the public later this summer with Create Your Own subscriptions and then as part of the single ticket on sale for the 2024-25 season. 

 

Keb’ Mo’ began his musical journey nearly half a century ago at 21 with his first major gig in, in Papa John Creach’s band. Over the next two decades, Mo’ became a respected guitarist, songwriter and arranger. 

 

Though he recorded a one-off album in 1980 under his birth name, Kevin Moore, it wasn’t until 1994 that he would introduce the world to Keb’ Mo’ with the release of his widely acclaimed self-titled debut. 

 

Mo’s sound created modern, yet genre-bending takes on old-school sounds, and later earned his first Grammy Award for his best contemporary blues album with “Just Like You.” Over several decades, Mo’ earned four more Grammys, reached the top of the Billboard blues chart seven times and performed everywhere from Carnegie Hall to The White House. 

 

Major collaborations included Taj Mahal, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, The Chicks and Lyle Lovett and many compositions recorded and sampled by artists as diverse as B.B. King, Zac Brown and BTS.

 

NPR’s “Mountain Stage” named him as “one of the most decorated living blues artists,” while “The New Yorker” raved that “few musicians emblematize the blues like Kevin Moore.” 

 

Shawn Colvin stopped the industry in its tracks with her arresting 1989 debut, “Steady On”. The following spring, Colvin took home the Grammy for best contemporary folk album, establishing herself as a mainstay in the singer-songwriter genre. 

 

In the ensuing 30 years, Colvin won three Grammys, released 13 superlative albums, wrote a critically acclaimed memoir, maintained a non-stop national and international touring schedule.

 

Colvin triumphed at the 1998 Grammys, winning both record and song of the year for the hit “Sunny Came Home,” from the Platinum-selling album “A Few Small Repairs.” 

 

She was recognized and honored for her career accomplishments with the 2016 lifetime achievement trailblazer award by the Americana Music Association and was recently honored with an induction into the 2019 Austin City Limits Hall of Fame.
