THE IDLE CLASS PODCAST: The Frank Stanford Literary Festival
In this week’s episode, we chat with Molly Rector & Bailey Hutchinson of the Open Mouth Reading Series. On September 21-22, 2018, the Open Mouth Reading Series and Typo Magazine will host readings, panels, presentations, and festivities in honor of Frank Stanford’s creative work and of the artistic community he championed, particularly through the legacy of Lost Roads Publishers, which he founded in 1977 with fellow Arkansas poet C.D. Wright. Hosted by Open Mouth Readings and Typo Magazine, the Frank Stanford Literary Festival will be free and open to the public.
The festival intersects with the reemergence of Stanford’s work in print, new possibilities for scholarship, and his enduring relevance as an innovative and influential artist, even as they recognize the complicated nature of Stanford’s legacy. They will also celebrate the work of fellow Arkansas-born poet and Lost Roads co-founder, the late C.D. Wright, the continuing work of Lost Roads Publishers, besmilr brigham, and the array of poets influenced by Stanford and Wright, who continue to work, as Stanford charged, to “reclaim the landscape of American poetry.”
