The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow (WCDH) is thrilled to host a book launch party to celebrate the release of Eureka Springs author Heather McLoud’s second book, “The Biome Sacrifices.” The work is a timely young adult fantasy novel which explores the price and motivations of war. The event will be on Sunday, July 17, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at WCDH, 515 Spring Street, Eureka Springs. The event is free, and refreshments will be served. Join us and be transported on an imaginary voyage to a parallel universe as McLoud reads aloud from her new book. A Q&A session will follow the reading and books, signed by the author, will be available for purchase. Reservations are appreciated but not required. Learn more and RSVP at www.writerscolony.org/events.

On an Earth which has been free of war, pollution, and poverty for decades, Alishel’s biggest worries are perfecting the art of the holosculpture and pestering her dad to finally get a Monitor like everyone else. Her life is shattered in one week by a series of revelations which call into question everything she thought she knew. Now, the government that genetically engineered her wants her back and she and her father must flee to Earth’s sister planet, Biome, where Alishel will learn the price of Earth’s perfection. Advance reader Sandra Nash said, “McLoud’s emotional intelligence transcribes beautifully into her characters. Her books both entertain and enlighten anyone who reads them.”

Heather McLoud wedges writing in between work, graduate school, the demands of her two dogs, and the cat who believes he should be draped over her left wrist as she attempts to type. As a person with diverse interests, McLoud finds herself unable to stick to a single genre. She has written three novels. “The Biome Sacrifices” is young adult science fiction. “Sage Courage” is horror/suspense. “Hippie, Soldier, Queer” is yet to be published. McLoud believes that although it may be love that makes the world go around, it’s the way people cope with trauma that makes a story riveting. For a taste of death, explore McLoud’s short fiction: “Animal Comforts” is available in Pif magazine and “Salvage” is in Flash Fiction Magazine. Learn more at www.heathermcloudauthor.com.
