WORDS / KODY FORD

Adam Hogg is a man of many talents.  The Little Rock resident is an accountant by day, a musician and comedian by night, and now it seems a game maker.  Not the kind that Suzanne Collins envisioned to trip up the tributes in the Hunger Games, but a different sort.  He has developed a card game called “People-Person!”

“I’ve grown up with cards in my hands my entire life,” Adam says. “Since the age of seven, I’ve been into card magic, card flourishes and card games.  I decided to create People-Person! out of a desperate need to understand the world around me in a more microscopic, more familiar environment. Whether manipulative or wholesome, strategic or just plain lucky, People-Person! captures the relationships that bind us all.”

Martin22According to Adam, People-Person! is a card game that replicates LIFE, its SITUATIONS and its INTERACTIONS. In life, you inherently surround yourself with people that help fulfill a need in your existence. You lean on them and they lean on you.

The PEOPLE cards represent your friends and family. The EVENT cards represent the good, bad and sometimes ugly situations that can (and probably will) happen to you in your lifetime. The first person to score 10 points in all seven attributes:  AUTHENTICITY, CHARISMA, COMFORT, CONFIDENCE, KNOWLEDGE, RESPECT and SECURITY becomes the ultimate People-Person and wins the game.

Each card features illustrations by artist Chris Raymond.

Adam feels this is his game is more accessible than other board games on the market.

He says, “Other life-based games (such as THE GAME OF LIFE) don’t do it for me because it revolves too much around money and other principles.  I’ve never come from money, so I can’t truly understand this game.  If I win this game, I quickly realize that I’m losing in life.  When you think about it, games like this are a little depressing.  People-Person!, on the other hand,  takes a stab at life.  It’s called a People-Person! because it puts itself out there.  50 percent strategy and 50 percent luck, the game is closer to real life than you may think.”

Since he doesn’t have Milton Bradley backing him, Adam is raising money on IndieGoGo to begin production on the game. You can pre-order a copy of it or for a larger pledge receive other perks.  You can learn more about People-Person! and get yourself a copy here.
