The ARTx3 Campus welcomes Tra Bouscaren, an esteemed artist and assistant professor of art at Arizona State University, as the artist-in-residence from June 3-28.

“We are extremely excited to welcome artist Tra Bouscaren to the ARTx3 Campus as the first artist in residence of the 2024 season,” said Kevin Haynie, curator of collections and exhibitions. “Tra brings with him a unique style and technique of confronting many interesting topics in an incredibly thought-provoking and abstract manner. With his experience and expertise in many kinds of materials and technology, we are hoping to share this with our community and help open avenues of art-making that may not always be accessible or easily approachable.”

Bouscaren’s unique experience includes presenting his practice-based research at prestigious venues such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tucson, the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History and the Rubin Center for Visual Arts. He also founded the Expanded Media Lab in 2019, collaborating with multiple visual artists, performers, hackers, musicians and scholars.

With a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Yale University and a Master of Fine Arts in interdisciplinary fine arts from the University of Pennsylvania, Bouscaren is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

During his residency, Bouscaren will create art that reflects his interactions with the Pine Bluff community. He will also lead artist talks, workshops and presentations, catering to a wide audience of diverse perspectives for both children and adults. Specific dates and topics for these events will be announced later in June.
