Matt McLeod Fine Art Gallery opening “Landscapes|Dreamscapes: At the Crossroads of Observation & Memory Exhibition”
Matt McLeod Fine Art Gallery is hosting an opening reception for their newest exhibition,Landscapes|Dreamscapes: At the Crossroads of Observation and Memory on Thursday, October 27th, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Little Rock.
Landscapes|Dreamscapes: At the Crossroads of Observation and Memory is a two-woman exhibition featuring the work of Arkansas artists Jeanie Lockeby Hursley and Dominique Simmons. Filling the gallery space will be drawings and paintings exploring the differences and similarities of perspective in numerous media, including graphite, charcoal, acrylics, pastels and encaustic. Candy, beer, food, and wine will be served in the spirit of Halloween.
“I’m thrilled to show Landscapes/Dreamscapes,” says Matt McLeod, owner of Matt McLeod Fine Art Gallery. “In this exhibition, you have two women at the top of their art game, especially as drawing artists. Both are well trained and deeply respected by those in the art community and yet are not as well known to some collectors. Jeanie and Dominique each start with an idea or vision, then make a transition somewhere in the process, so each work becomes much more than purely objective. What you have is two artists spending extensive time in the studio thinking and working their way through each piece, until it’s like a gem. The work is fascinating! As both a collector and a gallery owner, I can’t wait to exhibit this show!”
“In my work, the past and the present share the same surface. The forms are always in motion, or on the verge of change. The results are electric marks and forms either coming into being or disappearing,” says Dominique Simmons about her dreamscapes.
Jeanie Lockeby Hursley comments, “For many years, I have had a persistent fascination with interrupted landscapes. I am interested in the visual tension created when nature interacts with the built environment. From early pastel drawings of trumpet vines inundating a railroad crossing to a recent encaustic painting of a homestead overwhelmed by kudzu, the investigation continues.”
