In an energetic and electrifying entrance, fire shooting from the stage introduced Cage the Elephant to the Walmart AMP audience Monday, July 15.

With bursts of raw gritty sounds pulsating through the speakers, the band began the night with “Broken Boy” off their fifth studio album “Social Cues.” The blend of alternative, indie rock paired with the energetic moves of lead singer Matt Shultz brought the crowd to their feet.

“Social Cues” songs sprinkled throughout the setlist, delving into themes of heartbreak, societal pressure and personal struggle that was hard to capture through the upbeat attitude of the performers.

If audience members took the lyrics more literally, the vibe of the night could have shifted beneath their feet. But despite the uncertain feeling themes of “Ready To Let Go,” “Skin and Bones” and “Tokyo Smoke” the crowd continued to shine with smiles.

Another popular album for the setlist were songs off their 2013 album “Melophobia.” The most excitement in the pavilion could be filled for the artist’s top track “Cigarette Daydreams” to be played live, with the vocals bouncing through the air. Lots of audience participation also came up with phone lights swaying to the beat of “Telescope” as they projected onto the stage.

Songs that made the energy of the performance fit the positive attitudes of the audience came off the pieces played from their latest album “Neon Pill.”

Tracks “Good Time” and “Rainbow,” accompanying the title track “Neon Pill” brought more produced pop sound to their setlist and although the tour is named after this album it was hardly touched on stage.

The setlist really focused in on a variety of hits across the nearly decade long discography for Cage the Elephant, going all the way back to one of their largest hits off their self-titled album “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked.”

To close out the three song encore, Cage the Elephant left the audience ecstatic and beaming with content for a show well done.
