Justus Fine Art Gallery announces new exhibit opening March 6

The March Exhibit at Justus Fine Art Gallery will feature work by Mark Blaney, Kristin DeGeorge, Matthew Hasty, Robyn Horn, Dennis McCann, Sammy Peters, Dolores Justus Reuther, Sandra Sell, Gary Simmons, Katherine Sixbey, Gene Sparling, Elizabeth Weber, Steven Wise, and others. Exhibit dates: March 6-31, 2026. An opening reception will be held from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026 as part of the monthly Hot Springs Gallery Walk.
A series of Steven Wise’s playful and colorful paintings will be highlighted in the exhibit. Focusing on abstraction, his paintings emphasize geometric forms and playful lines that are both familiar and non-objective. Steven Wise earned a BA in Art History from Swarthmore College and a MFA in painting from the University of Iowa. Wise’s work has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions including a 2018 solo exhibit “40 Paintings at 40 Years of Age” at Simpson College in Indianola, IA; “P is Works on Paper” 2012 solo exhibit at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR; “Abstract Arkansas” traveling group exhibition (2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, and 2013); “Price is Right” at the David Lusk Gallery in Memphis, TN; “Arkansas Legacy Exhibition” at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute in Petit Jean, AR; “ArtSway +10” in Hampshire, England; and many more.

Work by respected abstract expressionist painter Sammy Peters will also be showcased in the March show. Peters’ richly textured oil, wax, and mixed media paintings have been featured in numerous exhibitions throughout the nation and abroad including recent solo and two person shows at LewAllen Contemporary Gallery in Santa Fe, NM (2021, 2017); Mason Fine Art in Atlanta, Georgia (2018); the Galleries at Library Square at the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies in Little Rock, Arkansas (2017); the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith, AR (2016); and more. Peters’ work has also be included in group exhibitions at Greg Thompson Fine Art in Little Rock, AR; the Arkansas Fine Art Museum in Little Rock, AR; Kouros Gallery in New York, NY; Jay Etkin Gallery in Memphis, TN; Mason Fine Art in Atlanta, GA; Stremmel Gallery in Reno, NV; Gail Harvey Gallery in Santa Monica, CA; and many others.

A selection of nature-based paintings by Kathryn Sixbey will be included in the exhibit, as well. Since childhood, Sixbey observed and drew animals, landscapes, along with her family and friends. “My mother and I spent hours in the garden where I came to appreciate all the perfect imperfections nature had to offer,” states the artist. Sixbey pursued her artistic interests at the Memphis College of Art as a painting major and following college, she worked as a graphic artist and illustrator. In 2002, she continued her painting education with The Contemporary Realist Academy under the tutelage of Kate Manzo. Sixbey went on to become an art director in advertising and publishing. She also worked for eight years as an art therapist for Mid South Health Systems, where she founded “Art and Soul”, an annual art show including works from over a hundred client artists and six counties. Sixbey currently focuses her energies on her own paintings. Rich depictions of flora in a style reminiscent of Henri Rousseau, are a recurring theme in her work, along with realistic depictions of wildlife and landscapes. Justus Fine Art Gallery offers a wide range of original art including sculpture, paintings, ceramics, photography, and more by recognized artists. Opening receptions are held in conjunction with the Hot Springs Gallery Walk held from 5-9 p.m. the first Friday of every month in downtown Hot Springs.
