The Idle Class is hiring interns for Spring 2026. We’re looking for emerging journalists and social media creatives who want real experience telling arts and culture stories and shaping the voice of an independent magazine.

The Idle Class is an independent arts and culture magazine focused on the people and projects shaping creative life in Arkansas. We profile established artists and cultural leaders while offering behind-the-scenes access to the work that defines the region’s arts community.
Social Media Internship Description:
Social media interns help shape and manage the digital presence of The Idle Class on Instagram. This role focuses on promoting published stories, highlighting artists and cultural events, and maintaining a consistent editorial voice that reflects the magazine’s aesthetic and values.
Responsibilities include:
- Creating engaging posts and stories to promote articles, issues, and events
- Writing captions that reflect the magazine’s editorial tone and brand voice
- Developing content ideas that align with upcoming features and editorial themes
- Scheduling posts and maintaining a consistent posting calendar
- Assisting with basic performance tracking (reach, engagement, saves, etc.)
- Collaborating with editors and photographers to select visuals and story angles
- Covering events or behind-the-scenes moments when opportunities arise
Qualifications & Expectations
Strong applicants will be creative, organized, and attentive to detail, with an understanding that social media is both a creative and professional responsibility.
Applicants should:
- Demonstrate strong writing skills and an understanding of tone and audience
- Be comfortable creating visual content for social platforms
- Follow posting schedules and meet content deadlines reliably
- Communicate clearly and respond promptly to feedback and edits
- Represent the magazine professionally when interacting with artists, venues, and the public
- Understand basic social media best practices (captions, tagging, accessibility)
- Be willing to search online for upcoming arts events and artists to spotlight
Preferred:
- Experience contributing to social media accounts for organizations
- Familiarity with Canva, CapCut, or similar editing tools
- Basic understanding of analytics and audience engagement
- Familiarity with journalistic writing
