Music on the Mountain wraps season with Ashtyn Barbaree and AUD

Mount Sequoyah’s Music on the Mountain series welcomed award-winning singer-songwriter Ashtyn Barbaree to perform her brand of earnest and ethereal Americana Oct. 18 at Vesper Point.
Barbaree’s set was heartfelt and wistful, her dreamy voice and aching lyrics lilting and her clawhammer guitar technique hearkening back to classic Americana and bluegrass. Her skills as a songwriter were on full display with her rendition of “Sometimes I Miss that Feeling,” a soon-to-be released nostalgic reflection on youth with all the longing of a Joe Hisaishi score. Her set also included captivating performances of “Copenhagen,” a tale of falling in love on Christmas, and “The Great Forgiver,” a powerful and introspective tune that serves as an artist’s confessional in the vein of Jackson Browne.
Barbaree was accompanied by Garrett Jones on uprights bass, who also provided harmonies on several tracks, and the concert began with an opening set by singer-songwriter AUD. All performers are based out of Fayetteville, making the concert a truly local showcase of talent.
The Mount Sequoyah Music on the Mountain series was made possible in part by a grant from the Division of Arkansas Heritage. You can visit the Mount Sequoyah website to learn more about upcoming events.
